In the blackened wastes of Greel, gargoyles mysteriously clawed their way up through the scorched earth. Many say they are emissaries from the underworld of Nethander, and their penchant for turning to stone for long periods of time is their way of watching the mortal world, discerning an opportune time for the underworld’s forces to claim the lands above as their own.
Despite the legends, gargoyles are horrific beasts that scavenge and survive in the most hellish of landscapes. It is no surprise that they have become inexorably tied to the vampires of Chalyss, who have taken to domesticating and breeding the mystical creatures to adorn their baroque castles and keeps as both trophies and tireless guards.
When the vampires came to Aridika and founded New Chalyss, they brought their gargoyles with them. Now, the skies of Eastony are no longer safe from the flesh-to-stone monsters that can swoop down on any unsuspecting traveler. The thralls—vampires who are loyal to the betrayed and deceased Count of Aridika, Louric Morn—use their gargoyles to threaten the civilized world that seeks to re-colonize Aridika; a land the thralls consider to be their rightful kingdom.
Altar Quest is a cooperative game of fantasy adventure for 1–4 players. Designed by Adam and Brady Sadler, Altar Quest draws upon the success of their Modular Deck System (introduced in Street Masters and Brook City) and is based in their all-original setting inspired by high fantasy and Gothic horror. Featuring standalone quests, campaign play, and highly modular gameplay, Altar Quest puts players into the roles of powerful heroes seeking to drive the forces of darkness away from the "altars" that corrupt the world.
